How much does a blackwork tattoo cost in Barcelona?

It's almost everyone's first question, and the honest answer is: it depends. Not to dodge it, but because a custom blackwork tattoo has no catalogue price. Here's exactly what it depends on, so you walk into the consultation knowing what to expect.

How a custom tattoo is priced

The quote starts with your idea, placement, size, composition and expected sessions. Two sleeves can take different amounts of time depending on the black coverage and negative space. A fixed quote is agreed after assessing the piece, rather than based on placement alone.

That's why every project is quoted individually at the consultation, once we know what we're actually doing.

The four things that move the price

1. Size

The obvious one: more skin, more time. But it isn't linear — a large piece with plenty of negative space can go faster than a medium one packed with solid black.

2. Placement

Some areas are slower to tattoo (ribs, inner arm, spots near bone) because the skin behaves differently and needs more breaks. That affects how much gets done per session.

3. Black density

Saturated blackwork is what takes the most time: solid black needs several passes to stay even, with no gaps or patches. That's exactly what makes well-done blackwork age well, and also what adds hours.

4. Number of sessions

Large pieces aren't done in one go: they're built over sessions so the skin heals between them. Here's how many sessions to expect by size.

I don't work to be the cheapest. I work so the piece is yours and only yours, and so the black holds up over the years. If you're after the lowest price in Barcelona, I'm probably not your artist — and that's fine.

How the deposit works

When we set a date, a deposit is taken: it reserves your slot in the calendar and confirms the appointment is serious. It's normal and it protects us both — it secures your date and it covers the time I've set aside against last-minute cancellations.

The key part: the deposit comes off the total. It's not an extra payment, it's part of the price paid up front.

So how do I know if I can afford it?

At the consultation we talk your idea through honestly. If the whole project is over budget, there's almost always room to adapt it: start with one part, simplify the composition, or split it across more spaced-out sessions. I'd rather do that than have you rush into something half-finished.

A tattoo done right is forever. The price conversation lasts a moment. It's worth doing it properly.

Quick questions

Can I get a rough price by message?

I can give a very general sense if you send idea, placement and size, but the real quote comes at the consultation, once we see the design and the skin. Session rates help estimate the cost, but the total quote depends on assessing the project.

Do you charge by hour or by piece?

Pieces requiring fewer than 2 sessions receive a fixed quote. Projects requiring 2 sessions or more are calculated at €400 per session; a full-day session is €650. Read the process and booking conditions before confirming.

What if I don't end up deciding?

The consultation doesn't commit you to anything. The deposit is only taken when we set a date to tattoo you.
